St Francis of Assisi

We are learning about the communion of saints

My favourite part about writing this blog was explaining how Francis was a great role model to us. 

The changeling part was writing it in my writing book.

Early life

St francis of Assisi was born in Italy 1181. St Francis went to war and was captured once he was out he heard the voice of christ it told him to rebuild a church so he did that .

How he became a saint

After he rebuilt the church. He went down to care after animals and nature. St. Francis was a great role model because he taught us to care for nature and animals.

On Tuesday 5:30 NBC had a culture evening. We sang a lullaby called Ana latu.

We did lots of other activities.We made ngatu a tongan tapa cloth. On the night we sang the song ana latu.

On the day we sang a mihi Whakatau to the year people that have came to our school this year.

 Yesterday we did winter sports with the year 4 and 5 and some kids from another school. We tried out netball, tricky tag, tennis and capture the flag. I enjoyed tennis and capture the flag.

Fantail

• Fantails are the most common native bird that you will see walking about.
• In maori language fantails name is piwakawaka.
• Fantails favorite food is insects.

Kiwi

• They use their beak to smell out food.
• So kiwis actually sleep during the day and start their day at night.
• There are only 68,000 kiwis left.

Kea

• The kea is a parrot belonging to New Zealand.
• It lives in the south islands Mountains
• They are called the Clown of the Mountains because they are very cheeky and can steal peoples stuff sometimes

Kereru

• A kereru is sometimes called New Zealands Wood Pigeon
• Kereru are very big birds, in fact they are the biggest pigeon in the world.
• Kereru's favourite food is fruits off of native plants.

Tui

• Tui have these things under their neck called wattles.
• Tui like to eat nectar, fruit and insects.
• Tui usually lay 3-4 eggs

Hoiho

• The hoiho is also called the Yellow Eyed Penguin
• The hoiho is the 4th largest penguin in the world
• Their favourite foods are medium sized fish and squid

ANZAC biscuits and memorials

Here I am making ANZAC biscuits with my dad. It took about 15 min to prepare.

How kaiapoi commemorates Anzac day 

There is an Anzac memorial near the main river in the centre of town.
We have a dawn parade every year and there are alot of people that go.
At the dawn parade we remember those soldiers that fought in the war.
People also lay wreaths and poppys.

Why hello there i have a report to show you. People, are you ready to hear some knowledge about greyhounds?

Greyhounds have very long legs which make them large. Greyhounds are skinny, this helps them run fast. Greyhounds can come in many different colours, such as black, white and hazel. 

Greyhounds don't really bark a lot, but if they're outside too long they bark cause they want to be inside. Greyhounds can make happy noises when they sleep. Be careful cause when a greyhound stretches they may fart.

Greyhounds don't really smell that much unless they breath on you, so get a tooth brush and scrub scrub scrub their teeth.

Greyhounds love to be patted and being brushed. They have short fur.

Greyhounds are a smart type of dog. They are known for being the fastest dog in the world.
When greyhounds are not running in races they make beautiful pets.
I have a pet greyhound called Kora, she is a black greyhound. 

What does a greyhound look like and where does it live?

They are very skinny with long legs that help them run fast.
They can run up to 60 kilometres per hour. But they can be big couch potatoes as well.

What does a Greyhound do?

Greyhounds make very good pets. They like to socialise and sleep a lot.
Greyhounds are pretty easy to train as they will do it for a treat.

Some interesting facts I have learnt about greyhounds.

Ancient Egyptians liked camels and cats but they also were known to have greyhounds.
Greyhounds were talked about in the bible.

I think greyhounds are a loving breed of dog. I feel good about having a greyhound as a pet.

ANZAC Mascot

A mascot is an animal or a teddy, it represents a team or group of people.
People thought mascots bought good luck.

Soldiers were in New Zealand training.
Soldiers found a dog to be their Mascot and to keep them company. 

Mascots give people luck and cheer them up when they're down in the dumps.

The Navy sailors had a mascot dog called Jack. He lived with the sailors on a boat.

The army couldn't bring the animal mascots home but they snuck them into there luggage or
clothes because they couldn't bear to leave them behind.

Facts about ANZAC and how we remember.

They got animals to carry there supplies.

WW1 was called the great war cause WW2 had not happened.

Animals were mascots to make people happy.

Young soldiers fought in the war.

We remember the soldiers that fought in the war.

We bake ANZAC biscuits.

A dawn parade ANZAC day.

We go to memorials to show respect.

Jesus told his disciples the lord was going to give them a gift of the holy spirit.

Jesus rose into the sky to go to heaven

As the were praying a wind filled the room and a fire was above their heads, this was the holy spirit.

They began talking in different languages.

Peter told the people to turn to god and be baptised.

My inquiry on Kiwis

Kiwi birds are native to New Zealand, they are an icon to New Zealand. Kiwi birds can't fly, 
they are flightless birds.

The Kiwi bird is about the size of a chicken it has a long beak and very brown feathers.
Kiwi birds live in protected reserves and national parks because they are hunted by predators.

Kiwis are nocturnal. It means that they sleep in the day and start their day at night.
Kiwis have a territory where they live in, they might be alone or have a mate .

Male and female meet together to have their baby.  

Kiwi birds eat worms and insects. They hunt using their beak, they have nostrils at the end of
their beak, this is how they smell food. People do not have pet kiwis.
They are very bad tempered and very strong. They have sharp claws to attack.
Kiwis are nice but are likely to bite a person.

I think kiwis are cool, i wouldn't want one as a pet because it might bite me!
I think it's cool we call people from New Zealand kiwis.

Compassion for the ANZACs

To show compassion, my Mum and I did a bike ride to the ANZAC war memorial in Kaiapoi. I enjoyed learning about the history and I learned that my Dad used to go to the ANZAC parade when he did his army training.

Hey everyone I have a blog post for you about my small dog toy Fluffy. Fluffy snuggles with me when I am sleeping. I put Fluffy next to me when I am reading. I have had fluffy for 4 years.

senior school trip

As a Senior school we travled to 3 fantasic places 1. beach 2.museum 3.library before we went to 2 of those places we went to the library and when my friends were looking at books I was shreching  up a auther Geronimo stilton and i found alot but i had to pick one so I chose Geronimo stilton secret anget now I will tell you about the museum so after the library we went to the museum we saw a couple of photos, it was like going back in time to see old wars after the photos we had a wee had look around and it was time to leave and I felt sad to  leave but it was time to leave so we went back to school.
